myfortic®: Do's, Don'ts, and Considerations
Blood tests
Your doctor may ask you to have blood tests from time to time to check your progress and prevent side effects. Make sure that you keep all of your doctor's appointments and have any tests done that are ordered by your doctor.
Contraception
If you are a female of childbearing age, please note: To prevent pregnancy, use effective contraception measures before you take myfortic, while you are taking myfortic, and for 6 weeks after you stop taking myfortic.
If you become pregnant while you are taking myfortic, tell your doctor immediately. You should not take myfortic while you are pregnant, unless it is determined that the risk to the fetus is outweighed by the benefit to you.
Sun safety
As with all transplant medications, if you go out in the sun, wear a hat, protective clothing, and sunscreen.
Check your skin regularly
Tell your doctor if you develop lumps anywhere on your body, develop any moles, or you notice changes in existing moles.
This may be an early sign of cancer. Immunosuppressant medicines, including myfortic, may increase the risk of developing certain cancers, including skin cancer and lymphoma (cancer of the lymphatic system).
Be aware of other medicines and vaccinations
Before taking any new medicine, prescription or nonprescription, remind your transplant team that you are taking myfortic.
Be certain your doctor and transplant team are aware of any vaccinations you will be receiving to make sure there will be no interaction with myfortic.
